Centuries of Tragedies and Triumphs
Like most European capitals, Berlin has seen more than its fair share of tragedy and triumph. Modern-day visitors will certainly appreciate the depths of history and culture around every turn.
Reichstag Building. This beautiful structure has held many identities. The central meeting place for the parliament went on to survive a fire in 1933 and then was occupied by the Nazis. Today, it's Europe's second most-visited attraction. The building enjoyed a reunification in 1990 and its dazzling glass dome is open to visitors by reservation.
Brandenburg Gate. Adjacent to the Berlin Wall and serving as a symbol of the country's hard-won unity, this neoclassical arch is one of the most famous (and recognizable) landmarks in Berlin. The gate is especially majestic when it is lit up at night.
Memorial of the Berlin Wall. Situated in the middle of the capital, visit the Memorial of the Berlin Wall. It's honorable to pay respects here at the last remaining portion of the wall that divided Germany until the late 1980s.
